No fewer than 12 dead bodies have been recovered following attack on Agu-Amed community in Eha- Amufu, Isi-Uzu local government area of Enugu State.
The community had reportedly come under attack by suspected armed herdsmen on Monday, barely three days after the Benue massacre which claimed over 200 lives.
While seven residents were initially confirmed dead following the attack, five more bodies were, according to Sahara Reporters, recovered from the bushes as at 12 noon on Tuesday.
This brought the death toll to 12 with the search party still ongoing for missing residents.
Meanwhile, the threat of imminent attack has seen several residents of Eha-Amufu bordering communities with Benue fled their homes.
According to reports, over152 persons have been killed by Fulani herdsmen in Eha-Amufu between 2021 and March 2025 with 49 kidnapped cases recorded while about 20 persons still missing from several attacks.
A community leader, Ogbuzuru Ebe, who spoke to SaharaReporters on Tuesday, lamented that the death toll may increase as more people are still missing.
Another leader of the community, Sunday Ebe, disclosed that nobody has gone to farm for the past one week over the fear of being attacked.
Ebe however questioned the state Police Command over whereabouts of the surveillance helicopters donated to the state by the administration of former President, Goodluck Jonathan.
“Because of the unprovoked attacks imposed on Agu-Amed and Mgbuji autonomous communities, residents are no longer going to their farms to even harvest what they will eat. We are appealing to government relief agencies to come to our assistance because hunger is going to many people.
“Since last night our people have been keeping watch on borders with Benue as the assailants planning to overrun Eha-Amufu border communities.
“We are marvelled that the security agencies cannot monitor attacks from sky or even deploy Aircraft to track the criminals. Where are the police surveillance helicopters distributed across police State Commands during the former President Jonathan’s administration?” he asked.
