There was tension in Akure in the early hours of Wednesday as operatives of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, stormed the residential areas where students of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State resident arresting 14 of them over internet fraud.
The commission later confirmed that it arrested along with the students nineteen others as part of a raid on the students.
“The suspects were arrested at different residential locations within the Akure metropolis following intelligence on their alleged nefarious activities,” EFCC said.
The commission said its sting operation was necessitated by “strident calls to the EFCC by neighbours and parents around the locations, to save their children from being lured into internet-related activities by the suspects.”
EFCC said items recovered at the point of arrest include ten exotic cars, phones, laptops and one motorbike.
“The suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” the commission stated
