A 16-year-old boy, Mubarak Aliu, has on Thursday been arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a laptop.
The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a count charge of stealing.
Narrating his offense, the prosecutor, Insp. Olubu Apata, told the court that the defendant and one other now at large committed the offence on June 27 in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant and other now at large stole one HP laptop, valued at N418,000 belonging to one Jemilu Sanni.
Apata said the offence contravened Section 302(1) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State 2021.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Gboyega Abiola, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Ajibade, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case till the 4th of August for hearing.
