A 16-Year-Old Secondary School student, Paul Victor, has been shot dead by a lawyer, Barr. Donald Mbamah, in Imo State.
The incident reportedly occurred last week Monday at the 64-year-old legal practitioner’s residence at Area N, World Bank, New Owerri.
According to a viral video shared on X on Saturday, Victor, a JSS1 student of Urban Urban Development Secondary School, had allegedly scaled Mbamah’s fence to retrieve his ball.
The Barrister, who also owned a primary school, would nab the student and shot him at the buttocks despite pleading for mercy.
Victor was rushed to a General Hospital for treatment.
Unfortunately, the student was pronounced dead on Thursday despite efforts to save him.
This had sparked outrage amongst his colleagues who, as captured in the viral video, stormed Mbamah’s school and vandalized it.
The legal practitioner had, however, been arrested by the Imo State Police Command.
As confirmed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Command’s spokesman, Henry Okoye, Mbamah has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID) for questioning.
While the police is yet to confirm the circumstances that surrounded the incident, they disclosed that effort ongoing to recover the alleged firearm used in the shooting.
The Command expressed it’s condolences with the family of the deceased student while assuring that the Mbamah would be arraigned as soon as the investigation is concluded.
It, however, urged members of the public to desist from taking laws into their hands.
“Following the incident, Barrister Donald Mbamah was transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for questioning.
“A thorough investigation is ongoing, and the police are working to recover the alleged firearm used in the shooting. Photographs were also taken at the crime scene as part of the investigation.
“The Imo State Police Command expresses its condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and assures the public that justice will be pursued to the fullest extent of the law.
“The suspect will be arraigned in court once investigations are completed and sufficient evidence is gathered.
“The Command also call on the public to refrain from taking laws into their hands and allow the police and relevant authorities to handle the matter through legal means.” The statement read in part.
