A 200-level student of the University of Ilorin, Kwara state, has committed suicide over economic hardship.
The Mass Communication undergraduate student, whose identity was not disclosed, reportedly consumed a poisonous substance at his residence in the Oke-odo area of Tanke, Ilorin.
This was disclosed in a post shared on X on Wednesday.
According to report, the incident occurred last weekend when the student’s roommate left for lectures.
Following his return from lectures, the roommate would find the lifeless body of the student with a note beside him.
The deceased expressed his inability to cope with his dire financial situation, citing it as the reason for his decision to end his life.
However, the roommate immediately raised the alarm, prompting an investigation into the incident.
It was gathered that the deceased had been grappling with severe financial challenges, which reportedly began when he resumed his studies last year.
