The Senate on Thursday confirmed Dr. Godwin Emefiele as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria for a second term.
Emefiele, who’s first term is due to end on June 2, 2019 was appointed as CBN Governor on June 2, 2014.
His new confimation means he would be leading the apex bank for the next five years.
His confirmation followed last week letter written by President Muhammadu Buhari to the Senate requesting that Emefiele be confirmed as CBN Governor for a second term.
Upon the receiving the letter, President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, had last week Tuesday mandated the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions, to screen Emefiele and report back to the Senate within one week.
Before his comfirmation today, the Committee had yesterday screened and grilled the CBN Governor on issues affecting Nigeria’s economy.
