#SexForGrades: Nigerians Celebrate Eedris Abdulkareem ‘Mr. Lecturer’
Nigerians yesterday went back memory lane to laud the foresight of veteran rapper, Eedris Abdulkareem over one his single titiled Mr. Lecturer.
The Encomiums from Nigerians came following a BBC documentary which exposed four lecturers from University of Lagos and University of Ghana in a sex-for-grades scandal.
The rapper had in 2002 released an album titled Mr. Lecturer. He had in its tittle track thematised the experience of students in Nigerian tertiary institutions receiving higher grades in exchange for money and sex.
However, a twitter user with the handle @AustinYugo while reacting to the development wrote: “Watching BBC #SexForGrades documentary and I remembered Eedris Abdulkareem “Mr Lecturer”. He rapped about male lecturers exploiting female students by requesting sex and money in exchange for marks as far back as 2002. Sexual harassment is a norm in Nigeria universities.”
@Omojuwa – When Eedris Abdulkareem released “Mr. Lecturer” almost 2 decades ago, some of today’s predator lecturers were students, consoling their female friends who were victims. Which makes it sad when you realise we are in a loop of evil, that continues to come around. The cycle must end
