Presidential candidates of the the Labour Party, Peter Obi, that of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and the running mate to the candidate of the All Progressive Congress, Senator Kashim Shetima, on Monday clashed at the ongoing national conference of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA.
It was a moment Atiku, Obi and Shetima made efforts to sell themselves to the NBA members discussing their ideas over the Nigerian economy, security, education and other critical matters.
The audience had earlier given Obi a very rousing welcome with many hailing him as be made his way into the Eko Hotels venue of the event.
Atiku, in his contribution justified the establishment of private universities saying that some of those who condemn the running of private universities in the country also send their children abroad where the universities are owned by the private sector operators.
In a tweet posted by Atiku on his page, he wrote, “I used the opportunity of the first plenary session of the 62nd NBA conference to give Nigerian lawyers an insight into my bold policy framework that embodies Unity, Security, Economy, Education and Devolution of power to states and local governments known by the acronym of Unity-SEED.
“I stressed how interconnected these five policy prescriptions are. I assured them that a new Nigeria of our dreams is possible in the hands of a bold man of experience.”
While reacting,The Vice-Presidential Candidate of All Progressives Congress,Kashim Shettima noted that there is Unity in diversity this was as Nigeria unity is non-negotiable.
Kashim said the current administration is doing it’s best in ensuring that Lives and Properties of Nigerians are protected and that government is not relenting in achieving that
“Irrespective of current situation in Nigeria in term of security, government is doing everything in ensuring that Lives and Properties of common Nigerians are protected.”
He stressed that the Tinubu-Shettima administration will ensure that Nigeria economy is stable the way it’s been done in Lagos State and other progressive States in the country.
Chairman, Technical Committee on Conference Planning, Tobenna Erojikwe said that invitations were extended to four leading presidential candidates.
They are Obi, Tinubu, Atiku and the candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Erojikwe, said “We are excited to announce that of the four leading presidential candidates we sent invites to, two have confirmed to us that they would be available to speak at the 62nd NBA Annual General Conference holding at the Eko Atlantic City in Lagos. We await a response from the other two, and we are hopeful that it will be positive.
“It is a first in the history of the NBA Annual General Conference, and it is in line with our aspiration to make the 2022 AGC a legacy conference that sets a standard that will become a benchmark for subsequent conferences of the NBA. We are looking forward to seeing participants have a robust engagement with the candidates,” he said.
A former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, mocked Shetima over his appearance at the conference.
Omokri said if Shetima does not know how to dress himself, how does he know how to dress Nigeria?
