Nigerian midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, is set to captain the Super Eagles as coach Eric Chelle release the starting line-up for the crucial match against Gabon in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers Play-off.
The Super Eagles who had narrowly booked a slot in the play-off after finishing as one of the top four second placed team in the qualifiers are billed to face the Pierre Aubameyang-led Gabonese on Thursday evening in Morocco.
With barely an hour left before kickoff, Chelle had dropped the list of the starting eleven which saw team’s captain, Williams Troost-Ekong, dropped on the bench.
This gave Ndidi the opportunity to captain the team as they face Gabon.
While Stanley Nwabali retained his spot between the poles, the goalkeeper would be shielded with a defensive line containing, Bright Osayi, Calvin Bassey, Fredrick, and Mohammed Sanusi.
Supporting Ndidi in the midfield are Alex Iwobi, whose appearance would mark his 90th in Super Eagles shirt, and Akor Adams.
The National team frontline is set to be spear-headed by talisman, Victor Osimehn, with African player of the year, Ademola Lookman, and Samuel Chukwueze, supporting him from both flanks.
