A 23-year-old man, Shola Adeola, has on Tuesday been sentenced to six months imprisonment by the Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun state for stealing one Binatone standing fan and other valuables valued at N287,500.
The convict, who resides at No. 15, Yisau Busari Crescent, Abule-Iroko area of Ota, had pleaded not guilty to the charge of stealing.
In her judgment, The Magistrate, Mrs O.O. Fadairo, sentenced the convict to six months imprisonment but with an option of N50,000 fine.
Fadairo also said that the convict must restitute N100,000 to the complainant.
She said that the prosecution counsel, ASP E.O. Adaraloye, had proved beyond reasonable doubt that Adeola was guilty of the charge preferred against him.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel had told the court that the convict committed the offence sometime in May at No. 15, Yisau Busari Crescent, Abule-Iroko area of Ota.
Adaraloye said that the complainant, Aregbeshola Afolabi, had asked Adeola to stay in his apartment, pending when he would be around from his short trip.
He said that the convict stole one Binatone standing fan, two Tiger generators and nine pieces of plastic chairs, all valued at N287,500.
The prosecutor said that offence contravened Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
