An Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court on Friday sentenced a 32-year-old man, Ayomipo Johnson, to six months imprisonment for stealing iron rods valued at N94,500
The Magistrate, Mrs O. A Akamo-Oyede, sentenced the convict on a one-count charge of stealing.
Akamo-Oyede held that the prosecutor had proved the case beyond reasonable doubt and that the convict was guilty as charged.
She, however, explained that Johnson was to serve the six-month jail term or, in the alternative, to serve two months of community service within the court premises.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Evelyn Motim, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 8, at 5:00 a.m. at 21, Faloye str., Shoyoye area in Abeokuta.

Motim said the convict entered into the compound while the complainant was asleep, and stole the iron rods valued at N80,000 property of one Mr Kazeem Babalola.
She said the convict on Jan. 16 also stole another iron rod valued at N14,500 at Shokori area, belonging to one Mr Francis Ige.
She said the rods stolen by the convict were all estimated at N94,500.
Motim explained that the convict was arrested by officers of So-Safe Corps, while on his way with the items to sell them.
