President Bola Tinubu has renamed the University of Abuja after former Military Head of States, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (Rtd).
This was disclosed by the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, at the end of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) Meeting on Monday.
The President, according to Idris, made the decision in an effort to honour Gowon.
Idris, however, expressed that the proposed change of the institution’s name to Yakubu Gowon University, will be tendered before the National Assembly for approval.
“The third item is that there is also a decision taken by the Federal Executive Council, FEC to rename the University of Abuja to honour elder statesman, General Yakubu Gowon.
“The University of Abuja will, henceforth, be called Yakubu Gowon University.
“Of course, the process will have to go to the National Assembly for all legislative work in that direction, but FEC has taken that decision to write to the National Assembly to change the name of the University of Abuja.” Idris said
