The Minister of Power, Mr Adebayo Adelabu, has mourned victims of the recent tragic Ibadan funfair celebration at Basorun High School while expressing his condolences with the affected families.
Also also extended his sympathies to the traders affected by the fire outbreak at the Araromi Auto Spare Parts Market in Agodi Gate, Ibadan.
This was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Strategic Communication and Media Relations, Mr Bolaji Tunji, who quoted Adelabu as describing the incidents as “heart-wrenching.”
The minister expressed deep sorrow over the loss of young lives at the funfair, particularly considering it occurred at the start of the festive season.
He also lamented the devastating fire at the Araromi Market, which resulted in the destruction of goods worth billions of Naira.
“I am deeply saddened by the incident that led to the death of these young children who were supposed to be the future of our country with a bright future ahead of them.
“Waking up early this morning to also hear the sad news of the fire incident at the Araromi Spare Parts Market cast a dark shadow during what should have been a period of celebration.” Adelabu stated
He prayed for the comfort of the parents of the children and those who sustained losses in the fire, urging all relevant stakeholders, including security agencies, to learn from these tragic incidents to prevent future occurrences.
He further urged government agencies and security personnel to work together to develop effective measures to avoid such incidents.
“We should remain vigilant, be more security-conscious, and adequately address the root causes of all these unfortunate incidents.
“During these trying times in our state, my thoughts and prayers are with all the victims of both incidents.
“I pray for the repose of all the lost souls, and I hope these situations will make us stronger and better as a state,” the Minister added.
