The Association of Civil Society on Malaria Control, Immunisation and Nutrition (ACOMIN), on Monday conducted free malaria tests for the residents of Kpakungu community in Minna, Niger.
The group in collaboration with the Niger State Malaria Elimination Programme said that the programme was to commemorate the 2022 World Malaria Day with the theme: “Harness Innovation to Reduce the Malaria Disease Burden and Save Lives.’’
ACOMIN is the National Network of Civil Society Organisations working on the prevention, treatment and mitigating the impact of malaria, and the promotion of immunisation and better nutrition in Nigeria.
Mr. Kalejaiye Olasunkanmi, the state Coordinator of the group, said that it was collaborating with the state government to provide free health care services to the public.
He listed such services as: conducting malaria test, blood pressure test, sugar level test, HIV/AIDS test and the distribution of face masks to protect the public from contacting the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We are conducting free malaria testing for the people of Kpakungu community and we are also sensitising them on how they can prevent themselves from contacting malaria.
“Those who test positive will be given drugs.
“What we are doing today is supporting the state government activities,” he said.
Also, Mohammed Wasagi, the Officer for the state Malaria Elimination Programme, said that the programme was to sensitise the people on how they could prevent and eliminate malaria in their community.
