Vice President Kashim Shettima and other members of the cabinet, on Wednesday, joined the Nigerian military and families of fallen soldiers at the 2025 Armed Force’s Remembrance Day.
Representing President Bola Tinubu at the event held at Eagles Square in Abuja, Shettima laid wreaths to honour the fallen heroes having earlier released the white pigeons which symbolises peace.
The Nigerian Army would thereafter give a 21-gun salute in last respect to the soldiers.
Also in attendance at the annual military ritual are leadership of the Senate and House of Representatives as well as service chiefs, the Inspector General of Police, and the Chief Justice of Nigeria, amogst others.
Ministers, senior government officials, senior military officers, members of the diplomatic corps, widows of gallant officers, and the wives of military officers were also present at the occasion.
According to report, the Senate, in an earlier statement, commended the selfless sacrifices of the military.
The upper legislative chamber also lauded “serving officers and soldiers who are currently maintaining the peace and ensuring that our nation is secured and safe from internal and external aggression”.
