A 28-year-old man, Olagunju Olamide, on Monday appeared before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court over allegedly causing N100 million worth of damage on damaged the roof of Ife East Local Government/Ife Ooye Local Council Development Area (LCDA) building in Osun state.
The Prosecutor, ASP Emmanuel Abdullahi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on the 10th of January around 11 a.m. at Ita-Osa Street, Ondo Road, Ile-Ife.
According to Abdullahi, the defendant conspired with others, now at large, to commit the offences.
He stated that the defendant maliciously damaged the roof of Ife East Local Government/Ife Ooye Local Council Development Area (LCDA) building, located at Ita-Osa, Ile-Ife, whose value was put at N100 million.
The prosecutor said that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breakdown of law and order.
According to him, the offences were contrary to and punishable under Sections 249(d), 451 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 34, Vol II, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge of conspiracy, malicious damage and breach of peace preferred against him.
The Defence Counsel, Mr Mudasiru Raheem, applied for bail for the defendant in the most liberal term, promising that his client would not jump bail, but would provide reliable sureties.
The Magistrate, Abosede Sarumi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000, with one surety in like sum.
Sarumi said that the surety must be a landed property owner and must provide an identification card, with three recent passport photographs.
The case was adjourned till Feb. 26 for hearing.
