The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has demanded the immediate release of human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore.
SERAP, in a post on its official X handle on Tuesday, condemned the arbitrary detention of Sowore by the Nigerian Police Force.
The accountability group charged the Force to withdraw its bail conditions, stressing that they are inconsistent with the right to liberty.
“The Tinubu administration must immediately release journalist Omoyele Sowore who is arbitrarily detained solely for peacefully exercising his rights.
“The police must rescind the punitive bail conditions as they are inconsistent with the right to liberty.” SERAP wrote.
NPO Reported that the Force Intelligence Department (FID) had invited Sowore for probing on Monday over alleged intimidation of officers.
The Sahara Reporters Publisher would later disclose the FID’s plot to detain him.
Moment later, Sowore in a separate post, disclosed that he was granted bail by the DIG which he refused over conditions he claimed to compromise his innocence, dignity, and integrity.
Rejecting the bail, the activist said he will rather remain in detention till the hearing of his case than accepting the bail.
