Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has on Monday received Chelsea legend and former Ivory Coast’s national team captain, Didier Drogba, at the Lagos House, Marina.
Sanwo-Olu had, in a courtesy visit, hosted Drogba, and representatives of the E1 Racing Team led by the Chief Executive Officer Fund for Export in Africa, Marlene Ngoyi.
According to report, the courtesy visit was part of an engagement between Team Drogba and the E1 Racing Team with the Lagos State Government.
Speaking on behalf of the team, Ngoyi said that the purpose of the visit was for the teams to partner Lagos State Government on sustainable sports while using it to transform the lives of youths in Africa.
In his reaction, Sanwo-Olu affirmed his administration’s pledge to continue to empower young creative minds by providing opportunities for innovation through entertainment, sports sustainability to make Lagos a model city for Africa.
“Our goal is to invest in initiatives that foster creativity, entrepreneurship, skills development and socio-economic advantages.
“Our commitment is to help the teams with logistics, plannings, get approvals, visas, promote conversations for programmes scheduled to hold September this year.
“Lagos State remains a model, the centre of excellence,” he said.
Following the meeting, Sanwo-Olu, in a post on his X handle, stated further that he encouraged on collaboration between sports and community engagement.
“Today, I welcomed representatives from the E1 Racing Team and Team Drogba on a courtesy visit to Lagos House, Marina.
“We encourage collaboration between sports and community engagement, as it highlights our commitment to promoting sports in our state.
“We are all for creating a vibrant sports culture in Lagos, and we had a fruitful exchange of ideas exploring potential partnerships.” Sanwo-Olu wrote.
