Brazilian President, Luis Inacio Lula da Silva, has slammed the United States President, Donald Trump, over his vow to occupy some countries and territories, stressing that he was elected to govern the U.S and not “to rule the world.”
Lula da Silva, while acknowledging Americans’s decision to elect Trump, described his self-imposition on foreign territories as provocations.
The Brazilian President became the latest world leader to criticize Trump’s domineering policies since his return to the White House.
“I respect the election of President Trump who was elected by the American people to govern the United States,” but “he was not elected to rule the world.” Lula da Silva said.
He held that the U.S. president has to maintain “democratic and civilised” relations with the rest of the world as he reference to Trump’s intention to relocate Palestinians from the Gaza Strip.
The Brazilian president also criticised the United States for promoting itself as “a symbol of democracy and ‘sheriff’ of the world.”
NPO reported that Trump had on Tuesday at a news conference disclosed that the United States would take ownership of the Gaza Strip and redevelop it after Palestinians are relocated elsewhere- a statement which had generated backlash from world leaders.
Having resumed mass deportation of immigrants since his return, the U.S President had also stirred trade war against China, Mexico, and Canada with his tariff hike threat.
Coupled with these, the Trump extended his tentacles to South Africa, warning the country against its landownership policy.
