Human Rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, has demanded immediate withdrawal of query issued by the Delta State College of Nursing Sciences to a student nurse, Osafo Edobor, over viral TikTok video mocking First Lady Oluremi Tinubu.
NPO Reported that Edobor was identified as the brain behind the viral video of her colleagues rejecting Tinubu as their mother in response to a singer hailing the First Lady following her arrival at the Renewed Hope Health Initiative Programme held in Asaba, Delta state capital, on Tuesday.
While the musician had chanted “Na our Mama be dis o, we no get another one” the Agbor nursing students had replied with “Na your Mama be dis o!”
The video had since been considered an humiliation of the First Lady with several reactions from netizens.
This led to the Nursing College’s issuance of a query letter to Edobor.
Reacting in a statement issued on his official X handle on Friday, Sowore alleged that the query letter must have been influenced by the state governor, Sheriff Oborevwori in said attempt to please the First Lady.
The 2023 African Action Congress (AAC) Presidential candidate charged the school’s provost, Evbodaghe Ogonne, to retract the letter and guarantee Edobor’s protection from further harassment or penalties until she graduates as a Nurse in May 2025.
“This video provides further details regarding the Delta State College of Nursing Sciences’ decision to penalize Nurse Edobor. Given that the State Governor @RtHonSheriff was present at the event and recently appointed Provost Evbodaghe Rita Ogonne, there’s concern that he may have influenced the unfair letter issued to Nurse Edobor in an attempt to appease Senator Remi Tinubu.
“I am urging the provost to promptly withdraw the letter to Nurse Osato Edobor and guarantee her protection from further harassment or penalties until she graduates as a Nurse in May 2025!” Sowore wrote.
