The Economic and Financial Commission (EFCC) has broken silence over the alleged arrest of Nigerian social media influencer, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan.
Recall that the activist was on Friday arrested at a Guarantee Trust Bank (GTBank) branch in Abuja where he had visited with his mother to resolve the bank’s deduction from the woman’s account in settlement of a loan she allegedly took.
He was reportedly apprehended alongside his friend by armed security operatives claimed to be EFCC officials.
Confirming the development during an interview with BBC Pidgin on Monday, the EFCC’ s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, disclosed that VDM was arrested over multiple petitions filled against him.
Oyewale said VeryDarkMan was taken into custody following complaints from several petitioners on the allegation of cyberstalking.
The anti-graft agency’s spokesperson further revealed plan to arraign the activist in court.
He, however, noted that he will be granted bail before any legal action is taken.
“We arrested him to respond to a series of allegations raised against him by some petitioners.
“We will release him when he meets the bail conditions and we will take the case to court as soon as possible; we are law-abiding.” he said.
Meanwhile, on the connection of GTBank to his arrest, Oyewale reportedly clarified that the petitions against him were filed by different persons .
