A local businessman simply identified as Alhaji Abass and his manager, Abubakar Isa, have been abducted by unknown gunmen at Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The incident which occured on Thursday was reportedly disclosed on the Facebook page of NupeWide TV, a community online television platform.
According to the post, Abass and his manager were abducted around 7:20 p.m. along the Gbugbu–Ndeji Road, while driving home from work.
The kidnappers overtook the duo with motorcycles, opening fire into the air to disperse witnesses before forcibly seizing the victims.
They reportedly carted away an undisclosed sum of money while setting the businessman’s vehicle ablaze before fleeing.
Two sources in Lafiagi who confirmed the incident to MidlandPost added that the kidnappers have since established contact with the younger brother of Alhaji Abbas.
According to them, the abductors are demanding a ransom of N200 million for the release of both men.
According to report, the incident marks the second time Alhaji Abbas has been targeted by kidnappers, raising alarm over the rising wave of insecurity in Edu LGA and surrounding areas.
Residents are now calling for swift action from security agencies and the Kwara State Government to address the deteriorating security situation.
While the state Police Command is yet to confirm the incident, the whereabouts of the abducted victims remain unknown.
