President Bola Tinubu has reacted to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) seizure of 756 housing units from embattled former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.
Recall that the ex-CBN Governor had been undergoing trial since his arrest by the Department of State Service (DSS) on the 10th of June 2023 over abuse of office and $2.1 billion fraudulent allocation amongst other charges.
The trial had led to the discovery of the 756 housing units traced to him in what was described as the biggest ever discovery by the EFCC.
In his reaction, Tinubu expressed his shock with the huge recovery of the asset while speaking on the challenges and accomplishments of his administration at the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Summit held on Thursday.
Addressing the party’s stakeholders and office holders at the Banquet hall in the Presidential villa, Tinubu claimed to have removed corruption as he referenced to Emefiele’s case.
“You could see EFCC recovering over 756 houses from one person locally here o.
“Yes we encountered challenges when we assumed office in May 2023.
“But we have made progress by implementing difficult long overdue but necessary economic reforms. We have removed corruption.” He said.
The President decried the spate of corruption in the Nigeria, describing it as part of the obstacles holding the country back from attaining its greatness.
“Truly we are the giant, but the elephantiasis that is holding us back is indiscipline, corruption, and abuse of power. Again, I urge you to stay the course. Not because it is easy but because it is the only way we can shatter the barriers that is preventing us from realising the economic development that has always been our natural right to enjoy.” The President said.
