Apologises over Delay

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has given reasons for the delay in conducting English Language Paper 2 in the ongoing 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
NPO Reported that the council had come under fire over the conduct of the examination on Wednesday which failed to commence until 9:pm in most centres across Nigeria with some having to wait till 9:30pm-10pm before the paper arrived at the centres.
With the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination’s (UTME) howler still fresh in the mind of Nigerians, WAEC’s reignited netizens rage as they called out the council while faulting the country’s education system.
Reacting in a statement issued by its Acting Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina,
WAEC apologized for the delay while citing that it encountered challenges causing the delay as it attempted prevent leakage of any paper.
“While maintaining the integrity and security of our examination, we faced considerable challenges primarily due to our major aim of preventing leakage of any paper.
“We recognise the importance of timely conduct of examinations and the impact of this decision on candidates, their schools and parents, and we sincerely apologise for any inconveniences caused,” WAEC stated.
The council however said that it successfully achieved its objective but it inadvertently impacted the timeliness and seamless conduct of the examination.
“In spite our best efforts, we encountered logistical hurdles, security concerns and socio-cultural factors that negatively influenced our operations,” WAEC added.
The council re-affirmed its committment to upholding the highest standard in examination conduct, and pledged to continue to promote academic excellence.
