The Delta State Police Command has nabbed a 49-year-old woman, Joy Temitope, for allegedly stealing a two-month-old baby in Koko, Delta State.
This was disclosed in a post shared on X on Monday by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe.
The Police Spokesman, in the post, disclosed how the suspect lured and deceived a 20-year-old mother before allegedly spiking her drink and fleeing with her infant son.
He added that acting on intelligence-driven policing, the suspect was tracked down and arrested on the 15th of May.
“The suspect, Mrs Joy Temitope, aged 49 years lured and deceived a 20-year-old girl who had a two-month-old baby. She drugged the girl and stole her baby somewhere in Koko, Delta State.
“Acting on intelligence-driven policing, the suspect was arrested three months later and the baby boy who is now five months old rescued and reunited with his mother.” He said before interrogating the child’s mother and the suspect.
Recounting her ordeal, the mother stated that the incident occurred on the 15th of February.
She claimed to have met the woman in the market where they became friends with plan of doing business together which led to her visit to the suspect’s house in Warri.
“She say make I con know where she dey stay. When we con reach Warri, na drink she gave me drink. She gave me 5Alive inside motor. Sleep con dey worry me but I no fit sleep inside motor. When we con reach market, she said her children call her say dem no dey house that on their way coming back, they will pick us. Na there we sit down dey wait for her children.” she said.
The mother claimed to have slept off while still waiting at a store the woman claimed belonged to her church member.
On her part, Temitope admitted that she gave the child’s mother drink.
The suspect confessed to have stolen the child to raise him as her own.
“I carry the child because my children already big and dem go still enter university very soon. And I don’t have any pikin around me again.” She said.
