Legendary Nigerian singer and crooner of Gwo Gwo Gwo, Mike Ejeagha, has died at the age of 95.
The Enugu-based singer who was brought back to limelight by Nigerian skit maker, Brain Jotter, passed away on Friday night at about 8 p.m. at the 32 Garrison Hospital in Enugu, following a prolonged illness.
His eldest son, Emma Ejeagha, confirmed his demise to Vanguard in a telephone conversation.
Mike Ejeagha was renown for his traditional music which contains blend of Igbo folklore and proverbs.
He rose to fame in the 1980s with his unique style.
Years after leaving the music sphere, Mike’s fame was reignited as he became a nationwide sensation following Brain Jotter’s use of his song to create Gwo Gwo Gwo dance challenge which went viral on social media last year.
His newly found fame caught Enugu state governor, Peter Mbah, who paid him a courtesy visit while also naming a street after him to honour the legendary singer.
