The Osun State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has hailed the Court of Appeal over the dismissal of the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) request to revive the nullified 202 Local Government Election.
NPO Reported that Appeal Court sitting has on Friday struck out the APC’s request to relist its appeal against the Federal High Court’s judgement that nullified the controversial September 2022 LG election in Osun State.
As against APC claim of the court reinstating the sacked chairman at the February 10, 2025 ruling, the Appeal Court denied reinstating the chairmen as it slammed the APC for misrepresenting its judgement.
It further warned the party against distorting the court’s decisions for political gain.
Reacting the development in a statement issued by its Chairman, Sunday Bisi, the Osun PDP described the judgment as a triumph of truth and justice over wishful thinking and irritating grandstanding.
The PDP further described the Appeal Court’s pronouncement as a confirmation of its longstanding position that the APC was merely grandstanding without legal basis.
Bisi particularly praised the peaceful disposition of the state’s Governor, Ademola Adeleke, the resilience of the PDP elected Chairmen and the people of Osun State in the face of what he called “APC’s unbridled desperation and brazen lawlessness” which, according to him, led to unrest and avoidable loss of lives.
The Chairman also lauded the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) for conducting the lawful local government elections held on February 22, 2025, which brought in the current PDP chairmen.
He slammed the APC for seeking to validate what it described as a “deeply flawed and illegal” electoral process allegedly orchestrated by the former Governor Gboyega Oyetola led administration, after losing the 2022 governorship election in the state.
“The 2022 local government elections were a total violation of Nigeria’s electoral laws,” the PDP stated. “It is therefore alarming that the APC expected the courts to legitimize such a blatant abuse of democratic process” he said.
The party concluded by expressing concern that the APC’s actions are a threat to the nation’s democracy and rule of law, asking concerned authorities against abetting further attempts to undermine constitutional order in Osun State.
