The body of late former President Muhammadu Buhari has departed London in the United Kingdom for Daura, Katsina State, ahead of a state burial in the honour of the late ex-Nigerian leader.
NPO Reported that the ex-President passed away in Sunday evening at a London hospital after prolonged illness.
Sequel to his death, President Bola Tinubu had sent delegates led by Vice President Kashim Shettima to bring the remains of his predecessor back to Nigeria.
Some members of the delegate include the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, amongst others.
The body of the late president was reportedly conveyed on a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) craft on Tuesday before 8am.
Ahead of the burial which is set to be witnessed by several prominent Nigerian leaders and businessmen, the Federal Government had declared Tuesday a public holiday.
The declaration followed Tinubu’s initial order of seven days National mourning which will be marked with the national flag flown half-mast.
Tinubu had also called for a special Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in honour of his predecessor but the meeting was postponed to avoid clashing with the burial slated to hold by 2pm today.
Similarly, the National Assembly had suspended all legislative activities in honour of the late Buhari.
