An Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Clement Yunana, has been killed by a hit-and-run driver in Gombe state.
As confirmed in a statement released on Friday, the Gombe State Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, said the late officer who was attached to the Railway Police Outstation, Bajoga Division, was knocked down by the yet-to-be identified on Wednesday evening.
According to Abdullahi, the incident occurred around 5 p.m. opposite Matrix Fuelling Station in Tumfure, Akko Local Government Area.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that an unidentified vehicle, travelling from the Bauchi Road axis toward Gombe metropolis, struck ASP Clement Yunana while he was attempting to cross the road,” Abdullahi stated.
He said the driver fled the scene without stopping or offering help, leaving the officer with serious injuries.
“Yunana was rushed to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, where he was later pronounced dead.
“The police have launched a full-scale investigation and are working to trace and identify the driver and the vehicle involved.”
The command also appealed to members of the public to come forward with any useful information that could aid the investigation.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Yahaya, and the entire Gombe State Command extend their heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased officer,” the statement read.
