Nigerian social media influencer and activist, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, is set to lead the candlelight procession for the murdered prominent Anambra businessman, Ifesinachi Onyekere, popularly known as “Fish Magnet,”.
The catfish farmer was reportedly killed last week Sunday by unidentified gunmen who abducted him.
According to sources, the assailants stormed his residence in Ezinifite village, Okpuno, Awka South Local Government Area of the state, around 10:30pm on Saturday, arriving in an ash-coloured Lexus SUV.
The gunmen shot Fish Magnet, who is the son of a notable chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), in the leg and fled the scene with him in his navy-blue Toyota Corolla.
Despite efforts and the eventual payment of a ransom, the kidnappers failed to release the businessman.
He would be found dead by the roadside three days later, sparking outrage and heartbreak among community members.
His demise had also shocked netizens with VeryDarkMan, whom he promised some smoked fish, bursting into tears in a video posted on his social media page last week.
Ahead of the candle night procession, VDM arrived at the state capital where he addressed other aggrieved supporters of the late Fish Magnet.
The activist heaped blames on security operatives in the state over the murder of the young businessman.
He said that the candle night procession will commence from the converge point down to Fish Magnet’s office.
“Na sadness na him make us gather. We are supposed to gather in happiness to celebrate. But it’s so sad that we are gathered here today because of the demise of a young blood like every one of us whose name is Fish Magnet.
“Fish Magnet is a victim of the incompetence of our security. Before I came here, they actually want to stop this because they thought I am political. Maybe I wan do politics for one person against this governor.
“But I don’t care about politics. If person no die, if security dey, we no go gather here. If to say security dey, nobody go come here.
“A lot of things need to be done. Now we are going to take a walk to Fish Magnet office. It is going to be a very peaceful walk. This walk, the reason for it is simple.
“First of all, it is a tribute to Fish Magnet. And also, an awareness to government. Some of us wey we dey alive for here. We fit no reach next month if this kind thing continues.
“Don’t get it twisted. Some of us for here fit no fit even reach next year. If we no talk, don’t think you are too precious.” VeryDarkMan said.
The activist however noted that the procession will also be held as form of awareness over the spate of insecurity acorss the whole country.
He recalled the killings in Benue and Plateau states while also disclosing similar murder of a young man in Enugu state.
VDM further disclosed the raping of women and young girls in Enugu.
“It is quite unfortunate that a young man like that will be kidnapped and taken away and he will never come back again. First of all, the economy does not favour the youth. Everybody dey cry.
“Fish Magnet even try start up something, dey hustle. The least thing the government should do for him is to provide him with security.
“Nigeria of today, farmers no fit go farm because you no know wetin go happen to you. Not just Anambra.
“In Enugu state the other day, just like this Fish Magnet, naso dem take kill one woman’s only son. In Enugu state, they rape their women. They rape their young girls. They put stick in their vagina.
“In Benue, we saw the Yelewata incident. Over 200 people were burnt. Jos never finish. We are not only talking about this place. This movement we are doing today is to raise awareness on the insecurity around the whole country.” He said.
