The 2023 Labour Party Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has threatened to sue human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, to court over alleged defamation.
Obi, in a letter issued by his legal counsel, Alex Ejesieme (SAN), demanded that the human rights lawyer retracts some of his defamatory remarks against him or risk being dragged to court.
As contained in the letter dated 26th of August 2025, Ejesieme accused Adeyanju of publishing false and malicious defamatory statements allegedly aim at injuring Obi’s reputation before the right-thinking members of the Nigerian public and international community.
While noting that Adeyanju had constantly posting derogatory remarks about Obi on his X handle since 2022, the legal counsel to the former Anambra state governor, highlighted some recent post of Adeyanju, including a post where he called Obi the ‘leader of mob’.
Ejesieme held that Adeyanju’s description of Obi as leader of a mob, on account of the Obidient movement’s activities, falsely portrayed him as an anarchist and one inclined to instigate civil unrest.
The legal counsel demanded that the human rights lawyer retract all the defamatory posts from his X and Facebook accounts.
He also demanded a full public apology which Adeyanju must post on all his social media handles and also publish in three national daily newspapers.
Ejesieme warned that failure to meet the demand will lead to lawsuit against the human rights activist.
