The Rivers State Police Command has warned women against collecting transport fare from men without showing up as it declared it a punishable offence.
SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the Command Public Relations Officer, gave the warning in a video shared on the command’s X handle on Tuesday.
According to the police spokesperson, the offense is classified as obtaining money under false pretense which is equivalent to fraud.
“Why will you collect transport fare from man without going to see him?
“It is an offense! A punishable offence. It is obtaining money under false pretense-419.” Iringe-Koko said.
The post had since been met with mixed reactions from netizens with some men recounting their ordeal from women.
Some charged the Police to also declare extortion of motorists by its officers a punishable offense.
