Sequel to backlashes and public outcry over the spate of accident and killings linked to its truck drivers, Dangote Group has in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) held a training programme for its cement truck drivers.
Frequent accidents with casualties traced to the Dangote Cement truck drivers had in the past weeks intensified with the involvement of late Ruth Otabor sparking outrage and demonstration against the company.
NPO Reported that Ruth, the sister of former Big Brother Naija’s housemate, Josephine Otabor (Phyna) was on the 13th of August ran over by Dangote cement truck driver in Auchi, Edo state.
The incident led to the amputation of the Auchi Polytechnic student’s leg and placed her in a life-threatening condition.
Unfortunately, the mother of two eventually passed away last week Sunday.
Prior to her death, the accident had unraveled more cases of hospitalised victims of Dangote cement truck drivers.
In response to the backlashes, Dangote on Thursday hold the training programme where facilitators from the FRSC lectured the drivers on safety measures, cautions, and other notable road safety.
The training session was reportedly held at the Obajana cement plant in Kogi state.
A video shared on X showed the group of truck drivers gathered for the lecture.

While it could be ascertained if the training was held in every Dangote cement plants across the country, the development had sparked mixed reactions from netizens.
Some commended the company for the initiative while others doubted the effectiveness of the training.
“You people are funny I swear, I said it last week in a tweet that the drivers undergo periodic training, retraining and workshops inviting external companies and authorities like FRSC, VIO, Lastma et al, they also do award night and dinner for the best among them using a lot of metrics, they’re also provided with uptodate safety kits, also sanctioned appropriately when they commit any crime or are involved in any accident.”@oil_shaeikh

“A good step in the right direction. They should also install dashcams to monitor drivers behavior. Some will still continue their reckless driving. Also taking of drugs and alcohol while driving.”@Toxan1Q

“All this just to sneak out of allegation! Are they not trained before ? Funny people”@Covenanttrader1
“it’s called refresher training… every organization has this in place for their workers, mate.”@stainlesz05

“Most of his drivers are northerners with zero education, I hope this training is not just deceit cus I don’t see 4000+ drivers will undergo training and not involve In similar accident. The mentality is the problem.”@davidoghe

“The problem with these people (mostly Hausas) is that most of them did not formally learn how to drive. All what they know is: how to start, and stop the trucks. Same thing they are doing when driving and riding cars, tricycle/motorcycle. Also applies to the mobile tailoring work they do, that’s why they damage clothes given to them to adjust/patch. Come to Abuja and see the way they drive and ride; they drive ANYHOW.”@CruiseMasterTV
