The Guiness World Record largest jollof cooking attempt by Nigerian celebrity chef, Hilda Baci, has left many in panic as the giant pot containing the food broke while being weighed.
Baci had yesterday attracted mammoth crowd at the Eko Hotel and Suite where she attempted break the record of the largest jollof cooking fest in collaboration with Nigerian tomato paste brand, Gino.
The cooking which started around 3:30pm ran through the night with the food declared done around 10pm.
Things would however take a drastic turn during the weighing of the pot and its content.
The pot approximately weighed 1,430 kilogrammes itself and estimated by Baci to weigh about 20,000 kilogrammes- providing the entire 250 bags of rice planned to be cooked was used.
Despite Baci’s reduction of the quantity to 200 bags, the pot however appeared outweighed as it caved in while being weighed by a measuring device suspended by crane.
The moment, as captured in a video shared on X, had stirred panic amongst onlookers who cautioned the officials against spilling the content of the pot.
Regardless of the scare, Baci’s attempt had attracted commendations across the country coupled with her teeming supporters who slept over at the venue.
The total weight of the jollof filled pot is however yet to be ascertained as at the time of filing this report.
