Nigerian social media influencer and activist, Isaac Fayose, has accused the Ekiti State Government of arresting and incarcerating a woman who met and took pictures with him in Abuja.
Fayose made the allegation in a video shared on his Instagram handle.
The brother of former governor of the state, Ayodele Fayose, recounted how he had met the lady and others who followed Ekiti state 2026 governorship aspirant, Engr. Kayode Ojo, to an event in Abuja last week.
Fayose said the lady took pictures and a short video with him her return to Ekiti.
On her return to the state capital, Ado-Ekiti, she was arrested and arraigned before a Magistrate court for alleged owing a complainant N3 million debt.
The court was alleged to have hurriedly remanded the lady, a development Fayose claimed to have occurred because she took pictures and video with him.
While describing the charge as fabricated narrative, Fayose accused the court of colluding with the state government, which he often criticise, to quickly incarcerate the lady for the pictures and videos she took with him.
“A lady came to Abuja last week with Engineer Kayode Ojo. The lady saw me; all the people saw me. So, they decided to take pictures with me- about 100 of them.
“So, this lady took pictures and did a small video with me.
“She didn’t even say anything about the government. When this lady got back to Ekiti, she was arrested for taking pictures with me.
“Not just was she arrested, she was hurriedly taken to Magistrate court working with the government in Ekiti. They hurriedly put this lady in prison. They said she is owing someone, and she’s been paying someone. They looked for a story to tell for taking pictures with me.” He said.
Fayose questioned the court’s ruling, stressing that even President Bola Tinubu never ordered the arrest of anyone for criticism him.
He described the lady’s arrest as an act of impunity while again calling out the state government over it N200 road construction project.
“She was hurriedly taken to prison in Ado-Ekiti. You guys can see the impunity going on in our system. Ekiti government na fear go kapi una.
“I don’t understand why you will hurriedly take someone to prison for owing. How? And you magistrate and judiciary that they are using for this job, remember you have family, children, brothers and sisters. One day na one day.
“People talk about President Tinubu every day, they didn’t arrest them. They did take them to prison.
“Yesterday, they said they spent 200 billion on road and Ekiti does not have road. 200 billion is how much per kilometre. Even Lagos-Ibadan expressway is not up to 200 kilometres.
“Where are the roads? We didn’t see. Instead, you are arresting my fans.” He said.
Kayode called for the release of the lady as he vowed to involve the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, over the case.
