Despite their futile wait at the Rivers State Government House yesterday, residents and loyalists to Siminalayi Fubara have on Friday stormed the Port Harcourt International Airport to welcome the reinstated governor.
NPO Reported that Fubara had yesterday disappointed the mammoth crowd as he failed to appear at the government house after the lifting of his six months suspension by President Bola Tinubu.
The crowd who had left the venue in disappointment would however mobilise again on Friday morning and assembled at the airport.
The governor, according to reports, is expected to arrive at the airport and assume duty today.
He is also billed to appear before the Rivers State House Assembly which resumed plenary yesterday.
The Martin Amaewhule-led Assembly had at the first plenary session since their suspension called for the governor’s submission of his list of Commissioner nominees as well as the state budget for the year.
Recall that the Assembly was alongside Fubara and his cabinet suspended following Tinubu’s declaration of emergency rule in the state on the 18th of March.
The power tussle between the legislative arm and the Fubara-led executive cabinet had plunged the state into political crisis and civil unrest.
Tension brewed in the state with Fubara’s orchestration of Amaewhule’s alongside other lawmakers loyal to the Federal Capital Territory Minister and former governor of the state, Nyesom Wike.
