Akwa-Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has on Thursday gifted all former Deputy Governors of the state a brand Sport Utility Vehicles each in compensation for their years of service.
As disclosed in a post shared by the governor on his X handle, the ex-deputy governors were given a brand-new Toyota Land Cruiser 2022 model.
Umo Eno maintained that the deputy governors deserve comfort having shapen the state with their dedications and service.
“I presented brand new Land Cruisers to all former Deputy Governors of Akwa Ibom State as a token of appreciation for their years of service and sacrifice.

“Their dedication has helped shape our State’s progress, and it’s only fitting they enjoy comfort as they continue to share their wisdom with us. Thank you for your service!” the governor wrote.
Meanwhile, Umo Eno’s gesture had attracted mixed reactions from netizens who largely faulted the gesture, describing it as waste of the state’s resources.
While some commended the governor, others faulted the choice of such costly vehicle.

“We have Nord and Innoson vehicles oo but of course na Toyota we will go for”@Pastor Okezie J. Atani
“When God finally remembers you to bless you, this is what it will look like. The former governors have been eating large all this while with little to nothing to the former deputies because deputy governor no be post, na appointment. God used @_PastorUmoEno to remember them”@OdogwuCa$h_
“Former deputy governors who served 4-8yrs are got Brand New Land Cruisers for their year of elected services, while retired civil servants who served for 36years can’t get their pension money and are being owned salaries. Absolutely nonsense!”@Ovokiss
“These are Elites, they could afford those cars now. Instead, build affordable houses for civil servants and create a pension scheme for them to pay small small. You’re a nice man, but this project doesn’t carry weight, my oga. It’s a financial error.”@Uyaiobong5
“It’s not a good gesture. Don’t you have other projects at hand? Pension, gratuities, uncomplicated projects, schools, roads and hospitals project that you will do to better the lives of your people? Obviously you want to bribe them so that they can support your next term agenda”@mylesmonroel
“Genuine question: does this improve the lives of the common man/woman in your state?”@D_Lawrenz
“You present brand new land cruisers to former deputy governors. First off, former deputy governors had cars when they were serving. They had project allocation which I’m sure gave them extra money. If I’m not wrong, they’re collecting pensions, but you thought it wise to give them new cars. What have you done about unemployment in the state? How about the syringe industry that Udom started? Have you ever thought of bringing or starting any company? All your work starts and ends with the political class. This governance was a mistake.”@RealSirPee
“The message is this…In anything you do in Nigeria, just get access to political money. Where is the budget for the cars? Are they poor? Will Land Cruisers cure their poverty? The level of insensitivity from the political class is reinforced by acts like this. Continue pastor!”@Femiwole
“That Nigeria has a spending problem is being confirmed right here and now! Has the basic needs of the people of Akwa Ibom been addressed by the government in power but his priority is to buy jeeps for his political acolytes while there are schools and hospitals that could use those resources”@mbakwem_paschal
“Same people that did nothing during their time in office you still use Tax-payers money to buy them Land Cruisers after their time in office. How many civil servants have been honoured for their services?”@DeeofMi
