Nollywood actress, Laide Bakare, has disclosed being the first person to take her 17-year-old daughter, Similoluwa, to a night club and also giving teenager her first alcoholic drink during her birthday celebration.
Bakare made the disclosure while speaking in an exclusive interview with social media influencer Akin Abolade, popularly known as Mr. LilGaga.
Recalling the event, Bakare claimed the birthday was held as desired by the teenager, stressing that she had never had such experience before.
“It was crazy. She will be going back to Uni and she was like she has never done anything the way she wants it to be. You know these kids when they get to a certain age, they want to do things in a certain way.
“You that age they are being newly introduced to life and things they don’t know. In fact, I’m the first person to bring her to a club.
“That was her very first club experience she ever had. I’m very glad in her memo she said my very first alcoholic drink, clubbing was from my Mom.
“That was the first time she will be in a club setting. She has never. She graduated early.” Bakare said.
Addressing speculations surrounding the girl’s age based on her rather matured stature, the actress said her stature is hereditary as she disclosed how people often claim she is older than her age.
“That’s how we are in our family. Even me, while I was 27, people were like ‘you are 38’ and I don’t argue. Even if they say I’m 60, I’ll accept it like that.” She said.
Speaking on her newly released book, Becoming Laide Bakare, Making Millions in Six Months, the actress disclosed that she was inspired by her failed marital affairs.
She recounted how was rendered broken by her last marriage.
“This book was inspired by my true life experience, the things I experienced in life that I never thought would happen.
“Like I told you, growing up was too luxurious and I felt that’s how it’s going to keep going until I started dating my baby girl’s father and I’m thinking life is not the way I thought it would be with then boyfriend. It was so tough and difficult but I was still pushing. At a point, it has to end.
“I started another relationship maybe three years after. I felt ;ike there will be a difference but no difference.
“After two boys, that one too couldn’t continue. It was that one that was even worse. I was sentence out of the house and couldn’t go back to my parent’s house.
“By then, I was popular already o, full time celebrity. I wanted to go with the kids but he said you can’t leave with the kids.
“He felt maybe I will be begging. But he has done so many messed up things that I can’t be begging for what I was even managing and suffering inside. How can I beg. So, I said I can’t beg o.
“I was crippled economically. When I was with this person, the car that I was using, he collected it. He changed it with his own.
“He gave me Range Rover with my own car spoiled intentionally. He was exchanging everything. He said I should move into his Magodo building.
“Before I know it, I don’t have anything of my own. So when that thing happened, he stripped me off everything.
“I was left with nothing. So, I travelled back to the US. I needed to come back home to Nigeria because I believe so much in Nigeria and I can’t cope with the cold there.
“When I came back, I didn’t have anywhere to go. I can’t go back to my father’s house. That will be like you messed yourself up.” She recounted.
On the controversial sex for role issue in the movie industry, Bakare admitted that it exist.
She however held that she had never experienced such on account of her father’s influence.
“Yeah it is true. But for me I feel it is everywhere. Guys will want you, especially when he is now a producer. He will be like ‘you need me na. You want to appear in the movie, oya come to bed.’
“It did not happen to me. The way I entered was too luxurious. They all know me that that’s Bakare’s daughter.” She said.
