The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has formally declared interest in the 2027 Oyo State Governorship election.
Adelabu made the declaration during a stakeholders’ meeting with leaders of the Osun State Chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) at the weekend.
As captured in a video shared on Facebook, the Power Minister held that he had been in politics for a long time and contested for the governorship seat against the incumbent governor, Seyi Makinde, both in 2019 and 2023 which he lost.
Addressing the party members in Yoruba, Adelabu declared that he will again contest in the 2027 election as he solicited for the support of the party members.
“Indeed I’ve been in this journey for a while now. I’m of the believe that it’s not the day you joined politics that you will attain what you desire.
“We’ve paid our dues. It was us against Seyi in 2019. 2023 was also the same. This 2027, God has been revealed that it is our turn. It is Adelabu’s turn in 2027.
“However, it’s not just done by words of mouth. We have to work for it.
“You and I will do the work together. No man can do it alone.
“It is a collective effort. Let’s engage members of our community.” Adelabu said.
Adelabu’s declaration is coming barely a month after accompanying President Bola Tinubu to Ibadan, Oyo state capital, for the coronation ceremony of the new Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Abdulrasheed Ladoja.
Also present at the event was the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) boss, Dr. Zaach Adedeji, who was initially tipped to also vie for the governorship seat.
Adedeji had however ruled out the speculations surrounding his likely interest in joining the race.
