President Bola Tinubu has written to the Senate for the approval of Eng. Abdullahi Ramat as the new Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
As contained in the letter read by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, on resumption of plenary on Tuesday, Tinubu sought the Abdullahi’s approval as NERC Chairman alongside other appointees.
The other appointees awaiting the approval of the Senate as listed in the letter include Abubakar Yusuf, Commissioner Designate for NERC’s Consumer Affairs; and Dr. Fawud Olayinka Animashaun, Commissioner Designate for the commission’s Finance and Management Services.
Tinubu urged the Red Chamber to consider the appointees for necessary proceedings for confirmation and approval.
“While it is hoped that the Senate will consider and confirm the nominees in its usual expeditious manner, please accept, distinguished Senators, the assurances of my highest consideration and personal regards.” Tinubu stated in the letter.
After reading the letter before the Senate, Akpabio referred it to the Red Chamber’s committee on Power with one-week ultimatum to tender their report.
“This is referred to the committee on power, to be referred to Senate in one week.” Akpabio said.
