Operatives of the Nigerian Police Force have been captured assaulting a journalist with his gadgets destroyed while covering the ongoing #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest in Abuja.
NPO Reported that protesters led by human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, had on Monday taken to the street demanding for the release of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
With the protest colliding with the 5th year anniversary of the #EndSARS Protest, the Nigerian Police Force and security agencies had deployed their personnel across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to disperse the protesters.
A video shared on X showed moment the security operatives fired tear-gas at the protesters who scampered for safety with Sowore also seen running.
However, captured in the fiasco was a journalist attached to a France-based news agency, Agence France-Presse (AFP), who was arrested by the police.
A bodycam video of the journalist shared on X captured moment he was whiskered away by the officers.
One of the officers could be threatening to deal with him while he repeatedly told them he was a journalist.
His plea however fell into the deaf ears of the armed security operatives who whiskered him away while damaging his camera.
