The Presidency has called for legal authorities’ sanction of Aloy Ejimakor, one of the defense counsels to the Indigenous People of Biafra’s (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, over his participation in the ongoing protest in demand for the release of the separatist group’s leader.
NPO earlier Reported that Ejimakor was arrested alongside Kanu’s brother, Fineboy Kanu, and other protesters by police officers in Abuja.
The protesters, led by human rights activist and Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, had on Monday stormed the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in agitation for the release of Kanu.
Ejimakor had joined the protest alongside Kanu’s brother and some clergymen.
Reacting to the appearance of the legal practitioner at the protest, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, slammed Ejimakor for joining what he described as shambolic protest.
Onanuga, in a post on his X handle, accused Ejimakor of resorting to extra-legal tactics rather than focusing on how to prepare a strong case in defense of Kanu following the conclusion of the prosecution’s case against the IPOB leader.
He called on legal authorities to sanction the lawyer for his unethical conduct.
