Says State Now Ranked Lowest in Out-of-School Children Index
- Safiu Kehinde
Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has reaffirmed his commitment to free education across all public schools in the country.
The governor, while reflecting on his first four years in office, declared that the state’s public school system has been revived.
He held that the state is now ranked lowest in the index of out-of-school children across the state.
Soludo made this known during his re-election campaign on Monday with the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) at Onitsha North Local Government Area ahead of the November gubernatorial election.
The governor in his address maintained that his administration remains committed to investment in the future of the state.
“We have a contract with Anambra’s future. Our contract with Anambra’s future, we described it as from the womb to productive adulthood and then to peaceful retirement. That is our contract with Anambra’s future.
“When the child is in the womb, the mother is guaranteed free ante-natal, free delivery. From kindergarteen to primary school, free education. JSS1 to SS3, free education.
“Anambra public schools’ system is back to winning ways. We are winning nationally. An Anambra school had just won the President’s award as the best overall school in Nigeria. And that school is in Onitsha.
“Now Anambra has the lowest out-of-school children in Nigeria.
“And when that child gets to university, he gets free bursary.” Soludo said.
The governor reiterated his ban on graduation ceremonies in schools as well as the extension of textbook usage.
Meanwhile, Soludo disclosed that his administration is yet to request for loan in over three years.
He also disclosed ongoing effort in providing permanent solution to the issue of erosion in the state.
“We have not borrowed in three and half years.
“We have tamed our environment largely. We dealt with the erosion which was largely on existential threat for Anambra. We are dealing with them.” He added.
