The Delta State Police Command has nabbed a middle-aged man, identified as Desmond, over alleged impersonation and forgery of plate number.
Desmond was reportedly intercepted by patrol officers who spotted an automatically controlled cover on his car plate number.
After being intercepted, the suspect claimed he was a political appointee with the plate number 394- DTGH also indicating that it was issued by the Delta State Government.
He also presented a document indicating that the plate number was issued to him the state government with an identification card which also described him as a political appointee.
However, preliminary investigation as disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the Delta Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, revealed that the document and ID card are fake.
Edafe recalled the recent ban of covered plate number by the Command which led to the arrest of Desmond by the officers.
“Two, three weeks ago, we reiterated that the use of covered plate number is banned, prohibited, and will not be allowed in Delta State.
“The young man when he was intercepted brought out a document purportedly to be from the Directorate of Government House and Protocol, claiming that this vehicle and number was allocated to him. We’ve been able to confirm now that this document is fake.
“He has an ID Card that says he is a political appointee. I wonder the kind of appointment that says political appointee.” The Police spokesperson said.
While being interrogated, Desmond confessed that he was not a political appointee.
On his motive of forging the state government’s plate number having initially registered the car with another number, Desmond claimed to have done it for what he called ‘big boys thing’.
Edafe disclosed that the suspect will be charged to court while warning other motorists to desist from forgery of government plate number.
