The Senate has on Tuesday confirmed the appointment of the newly appointed Chairman of the National Pension Commission (PenCom), Mr. Opeyemi Agbaje.
Agbaje’s appointment was confirmed along with other National Commissioners of the agency.
Deputy Senate President Senator Jibrin Barau, who presided over the proceedings on Tuesday, read out the names of Agbaje alongside other commissioners who are members of the newly constituted board of PenCom.
Others confirmed along with Agbaje include Hon Hafiz Mohammed Kawu, Commissioner Technical representing the North-West; Samuel Chigizie Nwandu (Inspectorate) and representing South-East; Charles Efe Sylvester Emukowate (Finance) representing South-South; and Bello Abubakar Malabu (Administration) representing North-East.
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Service, Cyril Oluwole Fasuyi, had earlier read out the names of the nominees.
Agbaje, who until his appointment was the Chief Executive Officer of RTC Advisory Ltd, is a banker and lawyer who was an Executive Director at the Guarany Trust Bank.
He served on the board of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) before he was later appointed as the chairman of the Ogun state Security Trust Funds.
A season policy analyst, Agbaje has been a notable Nigerian newspaper columnist, television presenter on policies with his programme The Policy Council.
He is also an author of many books.
Agbaje is also a Faculty member at the Lagos Business School.
Agbaje is a finance, investment and strategy professional with career encompassing law, banking and finance, academia and consulting in the areas of economy, policy, business strategy and leadership, with over 40 years of post-graduation experience.
A 1985 graduate of the then University of Ife where he read Law, Agbaje was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1986. He obtained a Master’s degree in law (LLM) from the University of Lagos in 1989, an MBA from IESE Business School, Spain in 1997.
