Tension has erupted at the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) National Headquarters as Police officers fired teargas at rioting supporters of the party.
NPO Reported that the Police had earlier deployed armed personnel to the Wadata plaza in anticipation for an imminent clash between the expelled Samuel Ayanwu-led faction of the party and the newly elected national leaders led by the new National Chairman of the party, Kabiru Turaki.
Both factions had yesterday announced plan to hold National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings at the secretariat in Abuja.
Turaki had petitioned the Nigerian Police Force over alleged plot of sabotaging the inaugural NEC meeting of the new leaders elected at the PDP National Convention in Ibadan last week.
Anyanwu on the other hand dismissed threat as the expelled National Secretary arrived at the Wadata Plaza alongside other members of his faction.
He warned that Turaki will be treated as an intruder if he shows up at the secretariat.
The clash between the factions had transcended to their supporters who stormed the PDP headquarters.
Videos shared on X showed some of the supporters armed with sticks standing front of the Wadata Plaza gate.
They however dispersed by the police who fire teargas at the them.
