Vice-President Kashim Shettima has departed Johannesburg, South Africa, for Luanda, Angola, where he will be representing President Bola Tinubu at the African Union-European Union Summit scheduled.
Shettima had attended the G20 summit in South Africa, representing Tinubu who had initially planned to attend the event as well as the AU-EU summit.
NPO Reported the President’s withdrawal from the event over resurgence of terrorists’ attacks and abductions recorded across Nigeria last week.
In his stead, Shettima travelled to South Africa to represent him shortly after concluding his condolence visit to Kebbi State where he met with families of the abducted schoolgirls in Maga, Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of the state.
Following the conclusion of the G20 Summit in South Africa, the Vice President, according to a statement issued on Sunday by his spokesperson, Stanley Nkwocha, would join other Heads of State and Government from the African Union (AU) and European Union EU) for the 7th meeting of the two bodies.
According to Nkwocha, the meeting is scheduled to hold from Monday to Wednesday in the Angolan capital, Luanda.
The Presidential aide said that the AU and EU meeting would bring together young leaders, innovators and Civil Society Organisations to brainstorm on some of the shared challenges of the two unions.
He added that the summit would also provide recommendations on how to address issues related to climate change, inclusivity in development, infrastructure, the digital economy, the creative industry, manufacturing, and agribusiness.
He said that vice-president Shettima would return to Nigeria at the end of the AU-EU summit.
