Former Anambra State governor, Dr. Chris Ngige, has on Wednesday escaped death by whiskers as gunmen attacked his convoy.
Ngige was reportedly attacked along the Nkpor – Nnobi Road, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state by the gunmen who were dressed in police and army uniforms.
While the former Minister of Labour and Employment was not in the convoy at the time the attack occurred, a policeman in the pilot car was shot with his gun and uniform taken away by the suspected assailants.
According to reports, an unidentified lady who was recording the incident was shot dead by the gunmen.
The assailants also shot a shop owner who had raced to the scene.
He was however luckily escaped death with an eye witness also disclosing that no policeman was killed.
While there is no official confirmation of the incident yet by the Anambra Police Command, Ngigie’ former Chief Press Secretary, Fred Chuwkuelobe, confirmed the development.
Chuwkuelobe, in a text message sent to The Niche, disclosed reaching out to Ngigie who confirmed the report to him.
He said the former Anambra governor also expressed readiness to assist those injured in the attack while commiserating with the family of the deceased victim shot by the assailant for recording them.
“I just got off the phone with His Excellency and he confirmed the development, promising to do all he can to ensure that those injured receive adequate treatment. He also commiserated with the family of the unfortunate lady who was killed while videoing the scene”. The text read.
