Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has formally dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) amid leadership crisis rocking the party.
This is coming hours after the Chairman of the Osun Chapter of the party, Sunday Bisi, announced the suspension of the party’s primaries slated to hold today ahead of the 2026 gubrnatorial election in the state.
NPO Reported that Bisi had announced the suspension of the primaries over the ongoing national level leadership crisis of the party which had destabilised the electoral process.
According to him, the crisis had also seen the party unable to hold the statutory ad-hoc ward and local government congresses, scheduled for November 24th and 29th respectively on account of the suspension and counter-suspension of key PDP national leaders.
Meanwhile, the Osun PDP Chairman hinted the possible defection of Adeleke from the party as he disclosed that the governor may no longer be interested in the PDP governorship ticket.
The Osun Governor would formally confirm the hint as he announced his resignation from the party in a post shared on his official X handle yesterday.
As contained in a letter dated November 4th, 2025, and attached to the post, Adeleke declared his membership withdrawal from the party, citing it current leadership crisis.
The governor in his caption on the post, which was an updated version of the letter, disclosed that he has tendered his resignation letter to the leadership of the party at his ward.
He expressed his gratitude to the for its support and opportunities given to him.
The post read; “Due to the current crisis within the leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) at the national level, on the 4th of November, 2025, I officially conveyed my resignation letter as a member to the leadership of the party in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North local government.
“I thanked the party and its numerous members and supporters for the opportunities given to me to use the platform for my elections as first a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and now as Governor of Osun State”
Though there have been speculations of his possible return to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adeleke’s next party however remains unknown.
