The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has nabbed a masquerader over alleged public disturbance despite a subsisting ban on masquerade activities.
The masquerader who was identified as David Effiong, an indigene of the state, was apprehended after residents reported that he was constituting a nuisance and allegedly destroying property within the community on Tuesday.
His arrest was confirmed by the state Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Azare,
The masquerade as captured in a now viral video was seen at the police station with his regalia still on his body.
The Police Commissioner vowed to charge him to court as soon as investigation over his case is concluded.
According to report, the arrest comes amid renewed enforcement of the state government’s directive outlawing all public masquerade displays.
The state governor, Pastor Umo Eno, had reportedly ordered a statewide ban on masquerade displays, citing rising cases of intimidation, violence, and destruction of property linked to masqueraders.
